The year 2014 promises to be an exciting one as the RMS is planning to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra. A number of special concerts and fund raising events are being planned to celebrate the occasion, including the orchestra’s and the brass ensemble’s upcoming spring concerts. A schedule of events and concerts will be posted on this website and through e-mail “notes.”
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new president of the RMS, and to extend a very heartfelt “thanks” to outgoing President Norma Hughes for her four years of dedication and service in leading the Society. She is most deserving of our appreciation for the many hours she has devoted in promoting and building the recognition of the NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra, the Annandale Brass Ensemble, and the RMS Jazz Orchestra within the community. Norma will continue to serve on the RMS Board of Directors in helping us plan the events and achieve our goals for the upcoming 20th anniversary year celebration.
As president of the RMS, I want to welcome new member Gwen Plummer as she begins a three-year term on the Board. Gwen brings valuable experience to the Board as an administrator and we all look forward to working with her. We also recently elected Joan Singer as our corresponding secretary, and graciously thank outgoing corresponding secretary Ruth Bedell for her four years of dedicated service to this office.
Once again, the RMS Board of Directors extends its gratitude to the many friends who attended our concerts, who advertised in our concert programs, and who contributed financially to RMS in 2013. It is through your continued generosity and support that we are able to fulfill our mission of presenting unique music programs and talent to the community. In closing, if you are interested in our programs and activities, and would like to become more involved with the RMS, please contact Joanna Ormesher, Executive Director, at 703-802-6150, or email@example.com, or you may contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stephen Rodkey, President
Reunion Music Society
Thanks to a member of the NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra, the Raytheon Corporation has donated a $500 grant to the Reunion Music Society. Raytheon asks its employees to log their volunteer hours and occasionally has a drawing. Sue Neff, a Raytheon employee and an oboist in the orchestra, won the drawing and was given the opportunity to name an organization to receive a $500 grant, and Ms. Neff graciously chose RMS. RMS thanks the Raytheon Corporation for their generosity, and again thanks Ms. Neff for her support.
